When you feel like the vibe isn't at the right level it's useful to not stay in the same key and try to fiddle around with it to make sure people will get in the right mood and vibe so they can enjoy themselves and come to the dancefloor. ![]() The way this can be done is by playing the same key or near the same key after your current song or by having the energy level the same (more on that later). When you have your vibe going crazy on the dancefloor it's a good idea to keep it that way for some time because that will keep people happy and dancing. Keep people engaged with the current vibe This way you will learn valuable skills which let you understand music in another way. Just like you should use your ears with beatmatching you should also use your ear when transitioning and matching keys. Having the right key is just as important as having your tracks beat matches to each other to ensure a smooth transition. But that's not everything that comes to the table. Either way, there are a few reasons that people want to mix in key.īeatmatching ensures a smooth transition with your mixes. Others say it doesn't matter a lot because people might even notice that you're actually mixing. Lots of people say that mixing in the right key is absolutely essential. So you can use this with every key notation there is. This can be handy at first, but try to remember where you can mix to (same key, the other letter, or 1 number up or down). I have made a table below with all the possible mixes within the Camelot system. ![]() Or finally, you can mix to the same number but another letter Or you can mix to other songs with a key with a lower or higher number but the same letter So, you can mix from the current key to another song with the same key The example used in the picture is the key 8A which allows you to mix to 8A, 8B, 7A, or 9A. The key takeaway is that when you have the current key of your song you might only go to a song with the same key or that has either, the same number with the other letter (From A to B and from B to A) or the same letter a number higher or lower by 1 position in the Camelot wheel (From 12 to 11 or from 12 to 1). I will explain to you how to mix in key with an example that is showed in the picture above. This particular one is that the software mixed in key uses which we will talk more about at the end of the article. Be aware that different wheels and notations might have different letters or colors. Every key also has a certain color associated with it. The A stands for minor and the B stand for major keys. Every number has 2 layers that exist of an A or a B. The Camelot wheel is thus made up of 12 numbers ranging up from 1 to 12. Because the letters and numbers are in chronological order it's really easy to know what goes together well. On this particular wheel, the letters match those of a clock and that will help you with remembering the Camelot wheel and being able to visualize it.
